To encourage the development of Entrepreneurial skills in partner schools, linking with existing curriculum topics and providing practical, real life scenarios and experiences for learners.
In 2019 we piloted a new initiative in which students from the UWE Bristol Business School ran a young enterprise scheme at Phendukani High School. Pupils were led through a series of business planning workshops including product design, marketing, finances and sales, after which they formed small businesses and sold products to other members of the school community. Winning businesses were awarded the Project Zulu Business of the year award.
Self-starting, entrepreneurship and money management are high priorities for young people growing up in 21st century South Africa. The aim of this project is to inspire and develop business awareness among these township pupils who may become the business owners and employers of the future. Project Zulu is looking to further expand this project when UWE Bristol volunteers can next travel to the Madadeni Township.
