Phendukani High School
Principal: Mr BM Kubheka
Phendukani High School is our first partner High School. It is a full service school which caters for disabled as well as able bodied pupils from 12 to 18. The school has over 1750 pupils on roll from grades 8 to 12 and is located in the heart of Madadeni Township. It is classified as a ‘quintile 3’ school, meaning it does not collect any school fees from parents and is dependent on government grants and donations for its running costs.
The School receives pupils from several of our existing partner primary schools. We have been working in partnership with Phendukani since 2017, running History, Geography and Tourism curriculum field trips, working with teachers and pupils to tell the story of 19th Century Anglo-Zulu conflict from Zulu perspectives. In 2019 we began a new project in which UWE Bristol business students ran a young enterprise scheme to encourage and develop entrepreneurship among pupils.
The Principal Mr BM Kubheka said “Understanding our past is crucial to creating a brighter future. Knowing how to be self-starting entrepreneurs will prove important to many of our pupils as they make their way in the world after school.”
